Fall 2003 Movies Sneak Peek

So many movies, so little time. The L.A. Times complains that in the next 57 days there are something like 82 movies being released. The discriminating Dudes know better. Most of these are mamby-pamby chick flicks or art films. Here's a run-down of movies that real Dudes will be looking forward to.

September 12
Once Upon a Time in Mexico
 - This is one we've been waiting a while to seem. Seems like Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, El Mariachi) has been too busy releasing kids movies (and making big bucks off 'em as well) to get the last film in THIS trio out the door. Antonio Banderas and Slama Hayek return, as does Cheech Marin (I thought he died in the last one but it appears he was only mostly dead). The new good guy/bad guy is Johnny Depp, hot off his stellar performance in Pirates.

September 19
Underworld
- I've said it before and I'll say it again. Nothing better than hot chicks in shiny black leather with guns! This time it is Kate Beckinsale stepping up as an erstwhile vampire chick ready to kick some werewolf butt! But wait, producers have thrown in some sappy Romeo & Juliet angle here. Let's hope that doesn't overwhelm the dude factor that shines through in this flick's trailer.

September 26
Camera Obscura
- This movie was plugged to be released sometime in June but appears now to have found a concrete distribution date. Here's what we said back then: Camera Obscura - Ok, so this one may be a little artsy for most of you but the slug intrigues me. "LAPD crime-scene photographer confronts his fears by distorting reality." - LA Times

The Rundown - The Rock is back, along with Seann William Scott (who was so annoying in the last American Pie sequel American Wedding) take to the Amazon to combine forces against evil mine owner Christopher Walken. The trailer rates highly and real Dudes will have to see this one, if nothing else, just to see the Rock get his butt kicked by a bunch of "little guys."

October 3
Bubba Ho-Tep - Bruce Campbell returns to the screen with Ossie Davis; not as everyone's favorite S-Mart employee unfortunately but as: Elderly Elvis and his rest-home buddy who thinks he's JFK battle evil Egyptian Entity. Based on a short story by Joe R. Lansdale (whoever he is)...

Wonderland - Bio-pic about the legendary "Long" John Holmes with Val Kilmer in the lead role. Movie explores the events leading up to the grisly L.A. murders that the porn star got wrapped up in.

October 10
Kill Bill Vol. 1
- Quentin Tarantino's latest epic FINAL hits the screen, or at least the first part does. Recent decisions by QT has split the movie into 2 parts with the second due sometime in February. The choice was to make 2 90 minute thrillers rather than 3 hours marathon kill-fest. Uma Thurman, a former assassin, takes revenge on her former partners and Bill for killing her fiance, family and un-born child and leaving her in a coma for 4 years. Sword play and gun fights at their best. This is the MUST SEE OF THE SEASON.

Intolerable Cruelty - While not strictly a Dude flick, the latest offering from the Cohen brothers stars George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones on the opposite sides of a divorce action and sexual attraction. If you MUST take your woman to a flick this season, this is the one to see. The on-screen chemistry has been compared to Hepburn and Tracey: screwball comedy with teeth and claws.

October 24
Scary Movie 3
- The whole gang is back parodying everything from Signs to The Ring, The Matrix, The Others and a whole buch of other movies that begin with The...
Airplane director David Zucker takes the helm on this one.

November 5
The Matrix Revolutions
- The final chapter in The Matrix trilogy. The gang from the last film is back in action trying to stop the machines and Agent Smith from ending the human race. If nothing else, the trailer is better than the last chapter of this futuristic saga.

November 7
Elf
- Will Ferrell plays a man who is raised by elves at the North Pole. Also starring Ed Asner, James Caan, Bob Newhart and Mary Steenburgen. Classic fish out of water story with a BIG twist.
